Tuition Fees for 2023/24

UK (Home) Students

  • Full-time: £4,880 per year

Non UK (International) Students

  • Full-time: £12,250 per year

Fees in each subsequent year of study (where applicable) will be subject to an annual increase limited by the All Items Retail Prices Index. We will confirm any change to the annual tuition fee to you in writing prior to you commencing each subsequent year of study (where applicable).

Your classification for fees purposes - whether you pay fees as a home or overseas student - will be determined in accordance with UK Home Office guidelines.

As a full-time student, you will spend the majority of your working time in research. You are expected to dedicate yourself full-time to your research.

Students wishing to pursue part-time distant study may consider the Bayes PhD Executive programme.

15 Bayes PhD Studentships available

We are offering 15 PhD studentships comprising tuition fees and maintenance grant of £21,237 per annum for four years, starting in October 2024. Studentships also offer funding for conference attendance throughout the four year period.

Applications close on 31st January 2024 for Actuarial Science and Management and 11th February 2024 for Finance, but high quality applicants may be made fast-tracked offers before these dates.

One of these scholarships will be specifically for Black British students.

Studentship in Digitalization and Sustainability

City, University of London is offering a doctoral studentships every year for 3 years from October 2023 in the area of Digitalization and Sustainability, as part of a scheme that will recruit outstanding researchers and eventually support 45 studentships across its six Schools.

The studentships comprise a stipend that tracks the UKRI rate (currently £20,662 pa) and tuition fees paid. Successful applicants will also have access to additional resources provided by their School.

Application deadline for this Studentship is 29th January 2024.

Funding and support

The Bayes PhD provides funding, research and travel support to PhD students.

  • All Bayes students can apply for travel funding for academic conferences if their research paper is accepted for presentation.
  • Students also have the opportunities to teach courses or act as teaching or research assistants to earn extra income and gain valuable experience.

Postgraduate Doctoral Loans

The UK Government has introduced a new Postgraduate Doctoral Loans scheme which can provide a loan of up to £25,000 over three years to support study for a doctoral degree (PhD). A Postgraduate Doctoral Loan can help with course fees and living costs while you study and can be used with some other forms of support, for example from industry or business.
